One of the two strikes at the Flin Flon mine (1934 and 1973) caused a major disruption to operations and people's lives as were many other less known labour disputes over the years

When the mine was under construction there were about a dozen bunkhouses (Later made into apartement houses for middle level management) and also detached homes for the management and also a staff house for upper level employees who did not have familly or were transient Cook houses at various locations served the bunk house redidents There was a large dining room in what became the Jubilee Hall and later a Cafeteria

The mill department of HBM&S was a critical part of the mining and smelting operations

This important department of the HBM&S was capable of taking waste heat from the something operations and turning it into electricity, steam and compressed air needed to heat and light the operations and provide compressed air for underground and surface operations

Finally closed in 2011, this department turned copper concentrate into gold and copper bars

This department of HBM&S was responsible for a wide variety of operations

Another large metal produced by HBM&S was the Zinc plant that saw many changes over the years

A subsidiary of Hudson Bay Exploration and Development Company Limited, was chartered in 1930 to supply air transportation for prospecting operations.

The HBM&S Company had a staff of uniformed guards who patrolled the plant area and had stations at the entry/exit gates of the fence surrounding the plant.

HBM&S maintained an office in Winnipeg in the Royal Bank Tower on Main Street.

After the 1934 Strike Channing realized that 'his men' had lefitimate concerns and that some sort of emplyee represtaton was required. Having defeated the Union he decided to form an in huse grup to represent the employees and added the unusual task of concerning itself not just with wages bu also the welafare and happiness of the members

In 1929 The Pas Chamber of Commerce with intent to promote the ecomomy of the North organized a visit by m embers of the Manitoba Legislature to Northern Manitoba including the mining districts and Flin Flon and the Hudson Bay Railway
